María TEN PALOMARES
Energy and HVAC Team Leader, Médecins Sans Frontières, València
I am an Industrial Engineer, Energy specialty. I hold a PhD in Local Development and International Cooperation. I have built up my professional experience both as researcher and as an active member of different organizations in the development and the humanitarian field for more than 10 years. Working with a wide range of NGOs, international organizations, public institutions, rural populations and indigenous’ peoples across Latin America, Africa and Middle East I have grown up my skills in project management, evaluation, gender mainstreaming, environment and mixed methods research in complex operational contexts. In my current position as Energy Team Leader in Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), I aim at ensuring that the energy and HVAC strategies and solutions answer MSF’s operational ambitions. I provide guidance to enhance knowledge sharing and transfer through the development of guidelines, training and research. Willing to continue to broaden my research career in the humanitarian field beyond the energy domain, I also coordinate the group who is building up MSF´s action plan to better anticipate climate-related disasters, to reduce environmental impact, and to improve advocacy on humanitarian impacts of climate-related events. I believe that, within the humanitarian and development sector, we need to help to bridge the gap on research, advocacy and emergency preparedness planning. And to do so, we need to work collaboratively, learn from each other and bring together different perspectives and approaches. I enjoy critical thinking and learning from practice. I am a person who thrives on learning and developing with others; always trying to bring a glimpse of humor and positive attitude in everything I do. Skills/Interests: collaborative approaches, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, mixed methods research, practitioner-led research, gender mainstreaming, facilitation, critical thinking, climate and environment, renewable energies. Languages: English, French, Spanish, Catalan.
