Marina Martínez Hernández

Predoctoral Investigator, Barcelona

Espanya, 2019

Born in Cartagena in 1995. She is a biomedical engineer who graduated from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 2017. She completed her junior year of college at George Mason University (Virginia, USA). During that year she worked at the Krasnow Insitute For Advanced Study (George Mason University), where she investigated the influence of osmolarity on epithelial to mesenchymal transition. Later on, she carried out her bachelor's thesis at the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Group (Universidad Carlos III) about cellular mechanotransduction. In 2017 she moved to Stockholm, where she completed a M.Sc. in Molecular Techniques in Life Science (Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University) thanks to the Rafael del Pino Scholarship of Excellence. Then, she worked as a graduate researcher at Lewis' lab (Wyss Institute, Harvard Medical School) in Boston. During this period, she focused her research on mechanotransductive mechanisms in kidneys. In October 2019 she joins the Biomaterials for Regenerative Therapies and the Biomimetic systems for cell engineering groups at IBEC. There she carries out her Ph.D. on cardiac regeneration.
