Diego was born in Zaragoza in 1996. At 16 years old, he developed rat brain cell image segmentation algorithms at Johns Hopkins University. In 2019, he earned an audiovisual systems engineering at Pompeu Fabra University. There, his final work on cardiac MRI image segmentation using deep learning earned the highest mark. The work earned the Best Dissertation Award—sponsored by Everis.
He led the engineering division of the early-stage startup Polaroo. Before that, he worked as a software engineer for other Barcelona startups such as Upshelf, Shalion, and Prenomics. He has been a code reviewer for Geektastic, an engineering recruiting company used by companies like Skyscanner or Bulb. In 2020, he won the MIT COVID-19 Challenge by setting up BridgeAid, a non-profit that helped Boston citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic and, later on, the victims of the 2020 Beirut explosion.
He is currently studying a Dual Masters of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science at the New York City technology campus of Cornell University. During the summer of 2022—in between his master's studies—he will intern at Stripe, the most valuable fintech company in the U.S. according to Forbes.
