Born in Verona (Italy) in 1993. She curses the Bachelor’s and Master’s in Archaeology at the University of Padua (Italy). During this period, she is also granted the Erasmus + for Study Fellowship at the University of Granada (2014-2015) and the Erasmus + Traineeship Fellowship at IPHES (Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution) in Tarragona (2018-2019). Since the first stages of her academic career, she participates in several archaeological excavations in Italy, Portugal and Spain, and develops her interest in the study of the relationship between past human societies and environment. In particular, thanks to the formation in archaeobotany received during her instance at IPHES, she is able to determine, among others, the types of wood (and trees) exploited in the past as fuel, tools or building material, starting from the analysis through the microscope of charcoal fragments collected in archaeological contexts. Charcoal is, in fact, a very durable debris, which conserves the anatomical structure of wood and allows to identify the genus and sometimes the specie burnt. This analysis is very important, in order to shed light on the woodland exploitation and the anthropic transformation of this space. Furthermore, the study is useful to provide data about the economy of basic necessities (i.e. wood fuel) and to evaluate the productivity and sustainability of pre-industrial human settlements in relation to the surrounding areas. These topics will be the object of her PhD project, focused on the study of the fuel supply of the city of Barcelona between the Iron age and the Post Medieval period. Through the determination of tree types exploited during centuries starting from the material record and the study of written sources, besides the application of innovative techniques, the investigation will provide data on woodland composition and management, urban gardening, environmental impact of the city and water availability in the past.
