Nace en Barcelona en 1977. Licenciado en economía por la Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) en 1999 y doctor en economía por el Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) en 2004. Ha desarrollado su actividad docente y de investigación en la Universidad de Pittsburgh, en Pensilvania, en la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, y en la UPF. Desde 2016 imparte clases en la Foster School of Business de la Universidad de Washington, en Seattle. Además de dominar el inglés, tiene conocimientos de francés.
