Dr Casals-Pascual is Consultant in Medical MIcrobiology and  Head of Bacteriology at the Hospital Clinic i Provincial de Barcelona.  He did his PhD at the University of Oxford (2004, UK) studying the pathophysiology of severe malaria and became principal investigator at the University of Oxford from 2008 (MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship) to 2020.  He has recently returned from Univeristy of California San Diego where he has been working on clinical application of the human Microbiome. His main research interests are biomarker discovery, microbiome analysis and artificial intelligence applied to infectious diseases.
