Nace en Madrid en 1974. En 1998 se licencia en Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales, especialidad de Economía Cuantitativa, por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). Durante el último curso de la licenciatura también trabaja para el Departamento de Control de Riesgos de Mercado del Banco Santander de Negocios. En 1999 obtiene el título de máster en Análisis Económico y Economía Financiera por el Instituto Complutense de Análisis Económico (ICAE), compaginando dichos estudios con su trabajo en el Servicio de Estudios del Banco Bilbao Vizcaya (BBV). En septiembre de 1999 se incorpora a la University of Rochester, donde realiza un doctorado en Economía. Domina el francés, además de la lengua inglesa.
