Gabriela was born in Talavera de la Reina in 1999. She graduated from the Biomedical Engineering degree at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) in 2021. In 2019 she received a scholarship to study abroad at Georgia Institute of Technology, where she started her research career at the Biomedical Engineering Department Wallace H. Coulter in Georgia Tech and Emory University. She focused on the study of glaucoma under the guidance of Dr. Ethier. Back in Europe, she was awarded an Erasmus scholarship to study one semester in FH Technikum Wien in Vienna. While studying abroad, she kept collaborating with Georgia Institute of Technology to develop artificial intelligence-based tools to study experimental glaucoma under the guidance of Dr. Feola, Dr. Ethier and Dr. Pascau. In 2021, she started to pursue a PhD in Bioengineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. Her research focuses on the intersection between artificial intelligence and mechanics to study how estrogen and menopause influence glaucoma, advised by Dr. Feola. During her engineering studies, Gabriela received the Excellence Scholarship from the Community of Madrid three consecutive times, was first author in a congress publication and was co-author in 4 other scientific publications.
