Nace en Palencia en 1970. En 1994 obtiene el título de ingeniero de Telecomunicaciones por la ETSIT de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. En septiembre de 1994, tras trabajar un año en la consultora de telecomunicaciones Intelofis, se incorpora como consultor a McKinsey & Company. En septiembre de 1996 inicia un máster en Administración de Empresas en la Columbia University, donde se especializa en Finanzas y Gestión de Empresas. A partir de agosto de 1998 se une a la oficina de Londres de Goldman Sachs como asociado en el Departamento de Corporate Finance.
