Nace en Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz) en 1964. Es licenciado en Filología Inglesa por la Universitat de Barcelona desde 1987. En 1995 obtiene el título de doctor en Lingüística por la University of Connecticut, especialidad de Fonética y Fonología Experimental. Al finalizar el doctorado, obtiene una beca posdoctoral del Ministerio de Educación en colaboración con la Fundación Fulbright para realizar un proyecto de investigación en los laboratorios Haskins, afiliados a la Yale University. En septiembre de 1996 se incorpora al Departamento de Filología Anglogermánica de la Universitat Rovira i Virgili de Tarragona. Ha participado como invitado en numerosos congresos y cursos en universidades, tanto en España como en Estados Unidos.
