Nace en Madrid en 1970. En 1995 se licencia en Física por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. En el mismo año comienza un doctorado en Física en la State University of New York, Stony Brook. Realiza estancias posdoctorales en Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, en Nueva York (EE. UU.), y en SISSA, International School for Advanced Studies, en Trieste (Italia). Ha disfrutado de becas de la Swartz Foundation y del programa Marie Curie. En el 2004 establece su grupo de investigación, dirigido al estudio de los principios de la representación de estímulos sensoriales por parte de las neuronas de la corteza cerebral, y que utiliza diversas técnicas experimentales y computacionales orientadas sobre todo al sistema táctil de los roedores. Desde el 2004 al 2015 dirige su laboratorio en el Instituto de Neurociencias de Alicante, centro mixto del CSIC y de la Universidad Miguel Hernández, como investigador Ramón y Cajal y científico titular del CSIC. En 2015 traslada su grupo a la Universidad de Sussex, en Brighton, en donde es catedrático de neurociencia y codirige el programa de investigación Sussex Neuroscience.

An online meetup with the USA 1994 fellows
The fourth event in the ”la Caixa” Foundation Fellows Virtual Meetups series took place on Thursday, 21 September. In this case, the fellows invited were those who received a fellowship in 1994 to do a postgraduate course in the USA. This small group of fellows is made up of experts in fields from health to nuclear physics, from finance to environmental law.
