Nace en Madrid en 1971. En 1993 obtiene la licenciatura en Antropología Social y Sociología por la University of Edinburgh. Durante el curso 1993-94 disfruta de una beca de investigación del Instituto de Estudios Sociales Avanzados (IESA-CSIC). En 1995 se reincorpora a la University of Edinburgh para realizar una investigación doctoral sobre "La inmigración en Cataluña: aspectos de identidad, política y ciudadanía". Conoce el francés, además de la lengua inglesa.
