Fellowship meetings Trobades becaris
The fourth "la Caixa" Foundation's Bachelor fellowship call was held this year, awarding 50 new fellows, and these grants have already enabled 200 excellent students to go to university. The deputy General Director of the "la Caixa" Foundation, Juan Ramón Fuertes, met with the 50 fellows from the 2022 call, many of whom have already reached the halfway point in their studies.
Eleven "la Caixa" Foundation fellows are meeting up in New York and Boston with the 65 winners of The Challenge by EduCaixa, a programme that promotes the talent of students committed to tackling the challenges of the 21st century.
Fellows Association Postgraduate Degree
The Fellowships programme of the ”la Caixa” Foundation has boosted the academic careers of more than 6,000 excellent students and researchers throughout its more than 40-year history. With this major milestone, the programme reaffirms its support for young talent and celebrates the total number of fellowships awarded so far: 147 bachelor fellowships, 3,878 postgraduate fellowships abroad, 1,719 doctoral fellowships and 273 postdoctoral fellowships in Spain and Portugal.
On Wednesday, 5 June, we celebrated the presentation of ‘la Caixa’ Foundation's postgraduate fellowships abroad, awarded to the 100 university graduates selected in the 2023 call. This event, presided over by His Majesty the King of Spain, is the 42nd edition of the fellowship programme, which aims to promote the talent of the most outstanding students by furthering their training at some of the best universities in the world.

International Research Life and Health Sciences Female talent Postgraduate
Kaori Mutsuda Zapater, a biotechnologist and "la Caixa" Foundation fellow, is doing her PhD at an innovative faculty in Kyoto that focuses on finding solutions to ensure human survival. Previously, she had a career as a voiceover artist, providing the voice for Boo in Monsters Inc.Kaori Mutsuda Zapater, biotecnóloga y becaria de la Fundación ”la Caixa”, está realizando su doctorado en una innovadora facultad de Kioto que se centra en buscar soluciones para asegurar la supervivencia humana. Antes, tuvo una carrera como actriz de doblaje, en la que dió voz a Boo, de Monstruos S.A.
When he speaks, Mohamed Dari (Vic, 2004) conveys a maturity beyond his years. And he's applied this same maturity to his academic career, particularly considering that a lack of financial resources hasn't made it easy for him. He tells us his story in a classroom at the Faculty of Computer Science of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, where he's currently studying Computer Engineering thanks to a Bachelor fellowship from "la Caixa" Foundation, which helps excellent students with limited financial resources.
Sustainable development Female talent
Artificial intelligence (AI) emerged in the 1950s with the aim of building intelligent computational systems. After decades of evolution, in recent years its growth has been exponential, altering the technological, economic and social ecosystem with tools such as ChatGPT becoming available to the general public. As analysed by Nuria Oliver, AI expert and "la Caixa" Foundation fellow, such growth entails the need for extensive discussion on the ethics and challenges regarding significant issues such as disinformation and its impact on democracy. But it also opens up a huge range of new possibilities for the good of society.
Research Entrepreneurship
On 20 February, we held a new virtual meet-up for fellows entitled First-time entrepreneurs: how to start a business without failing in the attempt. On this occasion, we were fortunate to have Antoni Rosinol Vidal, an entrepreneur based in Silicon Valley, who shared his valuable experience and knowledge with the participants.
