Ingeniero de Minas, especialidad de Metalurgia, por la Universidad de Oviedo. En 1994 se incorpora como investigador al Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (Düsseldorf, Alemania), donde se especializa en el campo de la fabricación y tecnología de aceros microaleados. En 1997 recibe el título de doctor en ciencias de la ingeniería por la Fakultät für Bergbau de la Universidad Politécnica de Aachen y en el año 2000 el de doctor ingeniero de Minas por la UOV. Desde el año 1997 ha desempeñado diversas responsabilidades en la empresa ArcelorMittal dentro y fuera de España. En la actualidad es Director industrial del área de Cok, Sínter y Hornos Altos de AM Asturias, y colabora en tareas docentes con la UOV. Está casado y tiene dos hijos.
