Manuel López Segura

Born in Gandia (València) in 1985, he is an eighth-year PhD candidate at the Graduate School of Design (GSD), Harvard University. He holds a professional degree in architecture from València Polytechnic University, a Master of Arts in Architectural History from the University College London, and a Master in Design Studies from Harvard GSD (MDesS). His work in the GSD MDesS program focused on the involvement of architecture in the construction of Spain’s democracy, welfare state, and regional identities during the 1980s. He enjoyed the support of a Fulbright Scholarship. As a PhD candidate, he conducts research on the architectural codification of political struggle, as it deployed in Europe during the second half of the 20th century, particularly in 1960s and 1970s Italy. He has published in peer-reviewed journals, has presented at international conferences, and has done curatorial work. He has served as teaching assistant for Professors Rafael Moneo and Hashim Sarkis, and as a Teaching Fellow for survey courses on the history of architecture at the GSD and at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University. He has a thorough command of French, Catalan, and Spanish, is fluent in Italian, and knows some German.
